This is a direct quote from a release by Canada Post on September 26th., 2008 Improvements to Preparing and Depositing Your Orders Effective January 12, 2009 Applies to all services Beginning in January 2009, Canada Post will implement changes to our verification process to help serve you better. The application of new technology will provide a faster, more efficient acceptance process resulting in a more consistent and positive customer experience. Changes are planned for our Receipt Verification Units (RVUs), equipping them with portable data terminals (PDTs) that will quickly and easily provide the receiving employees with important mailing information when Orders are scanned. This technology deployment begins in January 2009 and is planned for implementation in all RVUs by the end of March 2009. Also beginning January 12, 2009, Canada Post and software vendors will introduce a mailing plan file import option, which will allow customers to import their Mailing Plan into the Electronic Shipping Tools (EST Desktop and Online). This option will be offered in two file formats: - Extensible Markup Language (XML) - Comma Separated Value (CSV) This enhancement will reduce the amount of manual data entry required by customers when preparing their Orders for Presort Lettermail and Letter Carrier Presort (LCP) Addressed Admail and LCP Publications Mail. We are also introducing a new optional import file for Machineable products (Lettermail, Addressed Admail and Publications Mail.) This new optional import will assist customers when creating their Orders in EST, by reducing manual entry of data. This file will only be accepted in a CSV format using the Desktop version of EST. Please note that by July 20, 2009, the electronic transmission of the Mailing Plan into EST will be mandatory for LCP Addressed Admail and LCP Publications Mail. The import of the Mailing Plan data for Presort Lettermail will be optional and it is not recommended for Orders that contain multiple weight bands. New Container Label Specifications Effective July 20, 2009, it will be mandatory that container labels and tie on tags for LCP Addressed Admail and LCP Publications Mail include a bar code and/or the related human readable data. The new bar code and related human readable data will be generated by SERP software and will be linked to the EST Order which will in turn enable faster, more efficient acceptance process. If the customer's printer does not have the capability to produce a bar code, we will at a minimum accept the human readable data that represents the bar code content. In order to accommodate the changes to the container labels, there will be a change to the label size. Customers may continue to use their current container supply until depleted. The new bar code and/or associated human readable data will also be required on all monotainers and pallet labels used when brick-piling. The new container labels |
